Sherborn Farm Provides Therapeutic Services

This four-legged group of Sherborn residents spends their days helping those that cross their paths. The primary therapists at BiNA Farm are the horses that help individuals with physical, emotional, and/or psychological disabilities. Clients are adults and children with autism spectrum disorders, down syndrome, learning disabilities, and ADD, for example. Through therapeutic horseback riding, equine facilitated learning, equine facilitated mental health counseling, and other programs, the staff at BiNA connect with their clients and facilitate progress. BiNA recently dedicated a new sensory trail as a further resource to promote progress. The animal and human counselors, client families, and volunteers that help with the program provide an atmosphere of support that extends to the Sherborn community.

Sherborn’s an Active Community!

Everybody is busy in Sherborn! The Sherborn Boy Scouts are working on a cleanup service project at Barber Reservation. The Scouts created huge piles of cleared brush from overgrown trails and roads on the reservation. The Barber Reservation will be easier for the Sherborn community and those considering a move to Sherborn to enjoy. More immediately, Sherborn Scouts have cleared the way for the upcoming Sherborn Grange Fair, events celebrating Sherborn agriculture and held on the Reservation. This year’s fair offers a Plough to Plate dinner featuring ingredients from local farms. Peter Davis, a supporter of the locavore movement and head chef at Henrietta’s Table will prepare a meal featuring meat, eggs, fruits, and vegetables from six Sherborn farms. Head over to Sherborn to check out the community’s hard work and offerings.  Check out the Sherborn real estate while you’re there!

Sherborn Dining Options

Although a small town with a population just over 4,000, Sherborn offers some basic dining options as well as one surprise. For a quick meal or a casual place to take the family, the Sherborn community enjoys Village Pizza and Sherborn Sandwich Company on South Main Street. Both offer traditional fare. Sherborn also seasonally enjoys C & L Frosty’s on North Main Street for ice cream or a light bite. The surprise for this small town is the Sherborn Inn, serving lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. The Sherborn Inn’s new head chef, Gregory Talmot, is a Johnson and Wales graduate who has created a simple, comfort, country inn menu. As proof that simple is sometimes best, Chef Talmot recently took first place in the “Best Entrée” category at the “Taste of MetroWest.” Talmot’s winning dish was braised beef short ribs covered in a Kenyan coffee barbecue glaze. If that leaves your mouth watering, visit the Sherborn Inn on your next house hunting trip to Sherborn.

Sherborn Real Estate Trends

The number of homes sold in Sherborn has increased 10.5% since last year. Is that positive trend due to the still decreasing sales prices of Sherborn real estate? There may be no better time to buy premium real estate. The median sales price of a Sherborn home is down $35,000 compared to last year, and is now at $750,000. The average price per square foot is $253. The average list price has been decreasing week to week and now stands at $1,061,073.

There are currently 75 Sherborn homes for sale. For $97,900, a 2-bedroom in need of a builder is available. On the other end of the spectrum, Sherborn offers a 5 bedroom, 6 bath, 6,000 sq.ft. home for $4,850,000.

Sherborn Selectmen Activity

The Sherborn community expects and deserves selectmen that lead the town with insight, respect, and wisdom. Sherborn families don’t deserve infighting and disrespect that interferes with town business.

Since 2001, the town has been involved in a land development case, preventing Whitney Farms from expanding over the Sherborn aquifer. The superior court’s adverse decision left selectmen with different thoughts on the town’s next step and led to a controversial selectmen’s meeting. The selectmen’s discussion turned to accusations and conflict.

While it isn’t reasonable to expect all leaders to agree, or to instantly compromise, it is reasonable to expect honest discourse of facts and putting the Sherborn community before personal issues. At the meeting, Sherborn residents spoke out against the conflict. The Sherborn community knows how to proceed and hopes the selectmen will follow suit.

Sherborn Recycles

The active Sherborn community continues to show their commitment to town improvement. Today’s example comes to you courtesy of the Recycling Committee. While recycling has, thankfully, become commonplace, great variation on the breadth and depth of recycling remains across towns. Sherborn families continue to improve their recycling efforts, now adding composting to the mix. The Recycling Committee, in addition to educating and encouraging families to compost at home, has partnered with the Pine Hill School to promote composting. Pine Hill students separate their lunch waste into recyclables and food waste. Food waste is taken to a Sherborn farm for composting. The Sherborn community is raising a generation of environmentally aware students.

Sherborn’s Farm Road for Sale!

Sherborn is known for being a peaceful, private oasis with excellent commuting access to Boston and the Mass Pike.  A trip down Farm Road, located just off of Routes 16 and 27, is a pleasant journey to farmlands and historic homes, as well as some newer construction.  This rolling, winding, shaded road is popular for cyclists, and affords a lot of privacy for home owners here.

There are currently five homes for sale on Farm Road with a starting asking price of $997,500.  Sherborn affords buyers more land and square footage of living space than some surrounding towns, and Farm Road is no exception.  A close proximity to South Natick, Sherborn center, and the ever-popular Farm Pond, Farm Road is a quality piece of the Sherborn real estate market.

The days are finally long and warm and the evenings perfect for sitting outside with neighbors. Sherborn’s Farm Pond

Farm Pond is open and it feels like summer! One of Sherborn’s real estate treasures, Farm Pond offers residents a local place to swim, boat, and play. The Friends of Farm Pond add even more to the experience, sponsoring an annual sand sculpture contest and hosting other family events. The Friends of Farm Pond also help with improvements, raising money for the floating swim dock. The town hires lifeguards so that Sherborn residents can swim safely. Head to Farm Pond on the weekends to watch sailboat races, with some boats racing for Sherborn Yacht Club, some racing for Dover-Sherborn High School. Farm Pond is a Sherborn treasure, a wonderful place for summer recreation and for families and friends to get together.
